The Lebanese State Commissioner to the Military Court requested on Monday to expand an investigation over the case of former informational minister Michel Samaha accused of plotting a terrorist act, National News Agency reported.

Judge Saqr Saqr completed his assessment of the case on Monday, and then requested that the investigation expands to include the questioning of Syrian officials.

The Syrian officials needed to be questioned include Syrian security chief General Ali Mamlouk, a colonel identified only as Adnan as suspects in the case, and Syrian President Bashar Assad's media adviser Buthaina Shaaban as a witness.

Saqr has referred his assessment to First Military Investigation Judge Riyad Abu Ghida.

Samaha was arrested in August on charges of forming a criminal gang aimed at carrying out attacks in Lebanon at Syria's behest.

Mamlouk and Adnan have also been charged in the case. Mamlouk is suspected of forming a group to provoke sectarian killings and terrorist acts using explosives, which were transported and stored by Samaha.
