China on Tuesday called for the governments of South Sudan and Sudan to solve their dispute in a rational and friendly way after Sudan announced to halt landlocked South Sudan's oil exports through its territory.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a daily press briefing, urging a "flexible" and "pragmatic" resolution to the dispute.

The Sudanese government said on Monday it had halted landlocked South Sudan's oil exports until the two agreed on a transit fee.

"China thinks it is crucially important for the governments of South Sudan and Sudan to keep normal oil production," Hong said.

China calls for both sides to maintain restraint, solving related problems through friendly negotiation, Hong said.
