U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday called British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy separately on the urgent need to take actions to solve the economic crisis in the euro zone, the White House said in a statement.

The White House said that Cameron and Sarkozy agreed with Obama that "decisive action is needed in order to finally resolve the crisis and assure economic recovery, both within the euro area and beyond it."

Obama will continue to "closely coordinate with his European counterparts on this issue" in the run up to the EU summit on Oct. 23 and the G20 Summit on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4, said the White House.

Obama and Sarkozy also spoke briefly about the Middle East peace process, agreeing on the need for the parties to return to the negotiating table, the White House added.
