The Russian, U.S. and Canadian air forces will hold their second round of anti-terrorism drills on Aug. 8-11, a Russian military official said Monday.

Russia's Air Force will cooperate with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the U.S. and Canadian joint air defense command, in improving their capabilities to fight terrorism in the air, said Igor Muginov, Russia's commander in chief of the eastern military district.

The drills will involve AWACS surveillance planes, refueling aircraft and combat planes from both sides.

"The exercises will strengthen working relationships and promote joint detection, tracking, identification, interception and escorting of aircraft that trespass national airspace," he added.

The first Russian-NORAD joint anti-terror drills, dubbed Vigilant Eagle, took place in 2010.
