The Chief of French general staff Edouard Guillaud said Friday that the coalition operation in Libya was likely to last for "weeks," hoping it wouldn't take "months."

On local radio France Info when inquired on the length of the operation, the French military leader said, "no definition, I can't answer that question. I doubt it is in days, I think it will last in weeks, and I don't hope it take months."

Guillaud said it's unrealistic to set a fixed term for military operation, because "evidently, the solution is political (one)." Therefore, he said it's now time to "find political issues," but that's beyond his domain.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe on Thursday also said the operation could last for weeks, in not days. So far, the France-Britain-U.S.-led military operation against Libya is nearly one-week old since French warplanes launched the first strike on March 19.
