Pakistan, India to begin formal talks this month

Interior secretaries of Pakistan and India will meet in New Delhi later this month, which will mark resumption of formal dialogue process stalled after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said that following agreement to resume full spectrum dialogue between Pakistan and India, the first meeting under the resumed process will be held on March 28-29 in the Indian capital.
Interior Secretaries of the two countries would meet to discuss counter terrorism, narcotics control and humanitarian issues, she told the weekly press briefing.
Pakistan Interior Secretary Chaudhry Qamar Zaman will attend the talks. The Indian side will be led by Indian Home secretary Gopal K.Pillai.
Diplomatic sources said that besides counter-terrorism, the talks would cover progress in Pakistan of the Mumbai attacks trial and bomb attacks on a Pakistan-bound train in India, which killed dozens of people, mostly Pakistani nationals.
India had suspended talks with Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks blamed on Pakistan-based extremist groups. Pakistan had denied any involvement.
India officials said last month that they would ask Pakistan how much progress on 26/11 investigations was made in that country.
Pakistan has arrested seven members of the banned Lashkar-e- Taiba group in connection with the Mumbai attacks.
