Mongolian emergency staff began earthquake rescue training Tuesday under a project funded by China Earthquake Administration and Mongolia's National Emergency Management Authority, the National Emergency Management Authority said in a press release.

The training is aimed at providing knowledge and practical experience in order to improve the professional skills in conducting rescues during earthquakes.

Chinese trainers, led by Qu Guosheng, chief engineer of Chinese Bureau of Earthquake Emergency Response and Relief, outlined the rescue operations conducted after the Sichuan earthquake in southeastern China in 2008, and the lessons that had been learned from that experience.

The Mongolian rescuers who participated in the training were from the National Emergency Management Authority, Emergency Department of Ulaanbaatar city and the Special Rescue Units.

The training runs from Oct. 26-29, 2010.
