Chinese premier meets former Japanese prime minister

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Tuesday with former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama, exchanging views on China-Japan ties and bilateral cooperation in environmental protection.
Wen reviewed his visit to Japan in May this year, hoping that the two nations would work together to fulfill important consensuses reached during that visit to enhance political mutual trust and win-win cooperation.
Hatoyama was on a visit to China as head of a lawmakers' delegation of Democratic Party of Japan.
Wen also hoped the Japanese lawmakers would contribute to promoting China-Japan strategic and mutually beneficial relations and safeguarding Asian peace and prosperity.
The Japanese delegation visited Caofeidian, in north China's Hebei province, where China proposed to build a recycling economic zone.
The premier said China was dedicated to the policy of opening-up and welcomed Japan to expand trade and investment in China.
Wen said Chinese and Japanese businesses as well as financial and research institutions should play to their respective advantages and closely cooperate to set up world-class pilot projects in the fields of recycling economy, green economy, energy-saving and environmental protection.
"This will help advance China-Japan economic and trade cooperation," Wen said.
Hatoyama said he was glad to see constant progress in the Japan-China relationship.
He said the delegation was deeply impressed by the trip to Caofeidian, agreeing that bilateral cooperation in energy-saving and environmental protection had great potential.
Hatoyama said he and other Japanese lawmakers would actively promote the Japanese side to strengthen contacts and deepen cooperation with China, in a bid to achieve mutually beneficial and win-win results at a higher level.
