A magnitude-5.5 earthquake hit New Ireland Region, Papua New Guinea around 1:24 GMT on Tuesday, said the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter was monitored at 4.8 degrees south latitude and 153.816 degrees east longitude with the depth of 173.2 km.
