An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted the sea area near New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea at 0928 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 6.211 degrees south latitude and 149.356 degrees east longitude, 20 km west of Kandrian, the capital city of New Britain.
