Hundreds of angry locals in Afghanistan's Logar province, some 70 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, attacked a NATO-led convoy Sunday morning and set fire on five oil tankers after three civilian were reportedly killed by foreign troops on Saturday night, an official said.

"The NATO-led troops on Saturday night attacked a compound in Kolangar area near provincial capital Pul-e-Alam to detain suspected militants, but fire fight left three people dead in the raid," provincial government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish told Xinhua.

He said the three deceased men were civilians according to locals and the incident triggered the locals to protest this morning.

The villagers blocked the Kabul-Gardiz highway Sunday morning and attacked a convoy of international troops, according to Darwish.

Some locals at the site of incident said that four oil tankers of foreign troops were set ablaze by people while the fifth one was taken to undisclosed location.

Darwish confirmed that the highway was still closed by angry residence. The provincial government is sending a team to the area to investigate the incident, he added.

Earlier, an Afghan official told Xinhua that the attack was launched by a suicide bomber targeting a military convoy in Logar.
