Thailand's Election Commission (EC) Monday told a press conference that it voted to request the Constitution Court's order to dissolve the ruling Democrat Party, the website by The Nation newspaper reported.

After this, the Election Commission will pass on the case to the office of the Attorney-General to consider prior to forwarding the case to the Constitution Court.

The Democrat Party, which has led the current coalition government, was investigated for allegedly having received donation worth of 258 million baht (7.98 million U.S. dollars) from the listed firm, TPI Polene Plc.

Thailand's charter has prohibited a political party from receiving donation of over 10 million baht (309,310 U.S. dollars) a year from an individual or a company.

On April 5, over two hundreds of the "red-shirt" protestors staged a rally in front of the EC head office in Bangkok as they demanded the EC to answer whether or not it would dissolve the Democrat Party.
