Ongoing rain since Wednesday in Brazil's southern state of Parana has left one person dead, 53 injured and about 1,700 homeless, the Civil Defense Service said Friday.

The bad weather has affected a total of 26,400 people and 35 towns in Parana, authorities said. So far, no town has declared a state of emergency.

Seven thousand households were still without power after a gust of wind cut off power supplies to 130,000 households on Wednesday. Meanwhile, water supply has also been affected in nine towns.

Moreover, the zoo in the western city of Cascavel has sustained damage, forcing it to close temporarily and transfer its animals to other places.

The impact of bad weather was also being felt in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais. A strong wind hit the state's capital city Belo Horizonte on Friday morning, leaving 78,000 homes without power.

The weather was forecast to remain cloudy in Parana state in the next few days, but there were no further storms expected.
