Defense ministers of China and Tanzania on Wednesday agreed to build stronger military ties.

"China would like to work with Tanzania to bolster military and overall ties and create a better future, " said Defense Minister Liang Guanglie in talks with Tanzanian Minister of Defense and National Service Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

Liang underscored the profound friendship between the two peoples since the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Tanzania established diplomatic ties in 1964.

"Despite tremendous changes in the international arena, China and Tanzania have kept sound and smooth ties over the past 45 years," Liang said.

The defense chief attributed the good relationship to the two country's mutual trust and support, substantive cooperation in various fields and close coordination in international affairs.

Mwinyi said his country appreciates China's long-term assistance and support, citing some projects like railways, textile mills and farms.

Mwinyi, who arrived in Beijing Tuesday, said his visit is a "testimony" of both countries' commitment to develop relations.

"We ensure the visit will enhance our already good relations," he said.

Mwinyi and his delegation will stay in the Chinese capital until the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the PRC founding next week.
