Power failure halts 29 bullet trains
July-13-2011

A power failure delayed 29 bullet trains on Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway at about 11 a.m. on July 12, 2011 near the city of Suzhou in east China’s Anhui Province.

The power was resumed two hours later after repair. The Ministry of Railways made an apology on its website to passengers who were affected by the delays.

This is the second power failure within three days. A similar incident occurred on June 10, delaying 11 trains. Initial investigation found that thunderstorms caused a glitch to the power supply network.

Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway was put into operation on June 30. The 1,318-km-long high-speed rail line cuts travel time between the two metropolises to about five hours.
