Killing spree suspect arrested in S. China

A man suspected of killing five people and seriously injured another two has been arrested in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, police authorities said Sunday.

The killing spree occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Yamai village in Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County, according to the county public security bureau said.

Shi Shunbing, 34, had a quarrel with his girl friend surnamed Liu on Saturday night and chopped Liu to death with kitchen knife and four other family members in sleep early Sunday morning, the bureau said.

The five dead include three females and two males. The two injured are in stable conditions.

Initial interrogation showed feeling disputes led to the killing, police said.

Liu's family disapproved Shi's relationship with their daughter, said county head Jiang Xiangming.

Shi, married, has three sons, police said.

Shi hid in a mountain after fleeing the scene immediately and was captured 14 hours later. A total of 300 policemen involved in the manhunt.

Further details were not immediately known. The case is under further investigation.
