More than 105 people are confirmed dead with another 63 still missing in floods and landslides triggered by torrential rain in south China. Meanwhile, flooding continues to affect a number of provinces along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Anhui. Rescue workers are continuing to try to stem the flooding along the Yangtze River, and the situation is set to get worse with a fresh round of downpours expected in the next few days.

Rainstorms expected to hit the central province of Hubei will last longer and affect more areas than earlier downpours, although the intensity of the rainfall will be less than before. While racing to restore road access, local people are making sure their flood prevention and drainage facilities are in working order.

In another hard-hit area, Hunan Province, torrential rain will sweep from north to south on Monday evening in storms expected to last until Friday. Due to the drought in the past weeks, soil in Hunan has become loose. These areas, especially the mountainous parts in the west of the province, are now prone to mudflows and landslides in heavy rain.

Electricity was restored for residents after a three-day power outage in Xiushui county of Jiangxi Province. But northern regions of the province including Xiushui county, Wuning county and Jingdezhen city are bracing for another heavy rainstorm next couple of days.

In Anhui Province, local departments are organizing villagers to clean the roads blocked due to mudflows and landslides. Xiuning county was the most seriously flooded region of the province. A new round of rainstorms is likely in the southern regions of the province, and local authorities have issued strong warnings in preparation.
