In Europe, Parisians are being treated to a season of traditional Chinese operas. The Chinese Culture Center in Paris is presenting seven performances by six troupes from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

The Traditional Chinese Opera Season opened in on Monday Paris with Yang Silang Visiting His Mother. The story is set in the strife torn period of the early Song Dynasty more than a thousand years ago. It's theme of family devotion makes it an enduring favorite in the Peking Opera repertoire.

The performers from Fujian Peking Opera Troupe brought a passionate response from the French audience.

The ongoing show season includes several other traditional Chinese operas. Among them are the Kunqu Opera Three Dreams of A Scholar, Henan Opera's Qingfeng Pavilion, Jiangxi Opera Dou Er's Injustice.
