Over 100 restaurants on Beijing's Guang'anmennei Street have been providing diners with 'anti-theft boxes' and have successfully maintained a 460-day theft free record.

The 'anti-theft box', a plastic or wooden box used to collect customers' valuable belongings, has been so effective in preventing theft that the experience might be promoted city-wide, the Beijing News reported.

Rui Bo, a chief police officer at the Guang'anmennei Public Security Bureau, said the box has a lid and most thieves will refrain themselves in face of difficulty.

The Guang'anmennei Street is a famous 'gourmet street' with over 100 restaurants in Beijing's Xuanwu District.
