Chile Demands FIFA for Soccer Player's Absence
Adjust font size:

Chile's Soccer Association (ANFP) president Harold Mayne-Nicholls on Monday demanded a reason from the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) since Argentine River Plate club's striker Alexis Sanchez did not show up for Chile's national team's trip to Austria.

"The ANFP did all the negotiations with River Plate and I personally talked its president Jose Maria Aguilar of guaranteeing Sanchez would travel on Sunday to Austria. He did not show up, we are investigating what happened," Mayne-Nicholls said.

"We have asked FIFA because it is not respecting the player cession-rule, even though we had River president's promise," Mayne-Nicholls said.

Sanchez has become a key player for River Plate's coach Daniel Pasarrella due to midfielder Mauricio Rosales' injury and Sanchez's positive participation in the past two games.

Chile's national team coach Marcelo Bielsa needs Sanchez in this South American country's game at Vienna, Austria on Friday against Switzerland and on Tuesday (September 11) against Austria.
