Kenya's women volleyball team will have a two week training camp in Japan in preparations for the 2010 World Championship to be played in the country from Oct. 29 to Nov.14.

The training program released by Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) on Wednesday indicated that a provisional team of 24 players started non-residential training in Nairobi on Monday.

KVF chairman Waithaka Kioni who presided over the launch of the team said the two-week training was funded by Japan.

Kioni encouraged players to show appreciation by hard training, hoping the chance would prepare them well for the worlds.

"It is great pleasure to join you as we launch our women team to the World Championship," Kioni told a gathering of the national team that also included head coach Hideiro Irisawa, assistant Oba Kozue, deputy coach David Lung'aho.

The chairman advised the players to observe high standards of discipline during training and the competition period.

"I see it as a great honor for you to be given chance to represent the country at global stage and it is upon you to understand that you are carrying the responsibility of a country on your shoulders," Kioni told the players.

He cautioned the players that coaches are under strict instructions not to tolerate any element of indiscipline in the team. He told the players that they have everything required including skills and height to record positive results at the Championship.

"You have the height and skills to win matches and therefore there is no reason for us to become the punching bag of the Championship," he stated.
