Blanc to coach France after World Cup

French Football Federation confirmed on Thursday that Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc will caoch the French national team after the 2010 World Cup.

In a statement released on Thursday, the French Football Federation announced that the federal council had "confirmed the choice of Laurent Blanc for the post of national coach following the 2010 World Cup".

The current French coach Raymond Domenech will hand over his job to Blanc after the quadrennial football gala to be held in South Africa from June 11 to July 11.

The 34-year-old former French international sweeper has earned 97 caps with 16 goals, including the first golden goal in World Cup history he scored against Paraguay in 1998. Blanc won the World Cup in 1998 and UEFA European Championships in 2000.

Blanc started his coach career in Bordeaux in 2007. During his three-year spell as Bordeaux manager, Blanc was named Ligue 1 Manager of the Year in the 2007-2008 season and led the team to claim French league and cup title in the following season.
