In-form German striker Kuranyi to miss World Cup

German star striker Kevin Kuranyi, who has scored 18 goals for Schalke 04 this season, will not be included in the German squad for FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Despite earlier speculations that coach Joachim Loew probably will have to take exile striker Kuranyi along to South Africa, the German football federation quoted Loew as saying on Monday that he has decided against Kuranyi's pick.
"We come to the conclusion that we have other tactical and personnel considerations for the composition of the World Cup squad," the federation said in a statement.
Loew has banned Kuranyi from the national team since the Schalke striker walked out of the stadium in October 2008 in Duesseldorf at half-time, angered at being left out of the squad for Germany's match against Russia.
Schalke 04 are standing second in the Bundesliga, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Kuranyi is widely speculated to be part of the German national side since two other favorite strikers, Miroslav Klose of Bayern Munich and Cologne's Lukas Podolski, are struggling for form.
The federation said that Loew will make the final decision on the 23-man World Cup squad during training sessions in South Tyrol, Italy.
