Jeffrey Ntuka, who plays for popular South African soccer team Kaizer Chiefs based in Johannesburg, is in trouble for alleged public drunkenness and intimidation.

Ntuka's professional career has suffered due to his problems off the pitch and he now faces criminal charges for his latest indiscretion.

Football365. reported on Thursday that he was arrested following an incident in the industrial town of Vereeniging in South Africa’s Gauteng province on Tuesday.

Ntuka, along with his 18-year-old girlfriend and some friends were detained by the police.

The Sowetan newspaper reported that the group of nine caused a disturbance in a suburban area.

South African police spokesman Constable Nonhlanhla Radebe told the newspaper, "The flying squad received a call about disturbance of the peace from a neighbor.

"(They) found Ntuka and his girlfriend inside the yard but the gate was locked. Ntuka's vehicle was playing loud music. They refused to turn it down."

In October 2009 the Sunday World reported that Ntuka had allegedly been involved in a drunk-driving incident and this prompted the player's agent, Steven Kapeluschnik, to admit that his client had "personal problems".

At the time of this controversy Chiefs’ boss Vladimir Vermezovic told the club's official website that they would assist Ntuka.

"Jeffrey is part of the family and we doing all we can as the club to help him get his career back on track," Vermezovic said.
