Valencia denies plans to sell Spain striker David Villa
Adjust font size:

Valencia football club reacted quickly on Sunday to deny there are plans to sell Spain international David Villa at the end of the current season.

The club released an official statement insisting that rumors that they had an agreement to sell Villa to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester City in June 2009.

Real Madrid tried to buy Villa at the start of this season, but failed with a move just before the transfer window closed on the first day of September. Meanwhile, Manchester City has been linked with Villa throughout the current season.

The English side is now the richest club in the World and as Valencia is struggling with financial troubles, any big offer would be tempting. But the Spanish club says Villa is going nowhere.

"Villa is a valuable footballer and his form has done nothing more than increase our confidence in him," said Valencia vice-president Fernando Gomez on the club website.

"He is happy at Valencia and we are very happy with his commitment and his form. We don't think it is very responsible to publish certain information," he added.

Meanwhile Villa also ruled out any move.

"There is an agreement, but it is for six years with Valencia," he said after scoring in his side's 3-1 home win against Atletico Madrid.
