NBC's coverage of Olympics to set viewership record
Adjust font size:

The NBC Universal television network is on track to set an American record for Olympics viewership, according to Nielsen Media Research.

During the first two days of the 29th Summer Olympics in Beijing, about 114 million viewers have watched at least a portion of the Olympics on NBC, Telemundo, MSNBC and CNBC.

The previous two-day record was 110 million viewers for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Saturday's primetime coverage, which included swimmer Michael Phelps winning a gold medal and beach volleyballers Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh winning their first match, averaged 28.7 million viewers.

NBC said the telecast garnered a 16.4 rating and 30 share.
