Soaring vegetable prices amid China's worst droughts in half a century have triggered worries that inflation will climb to a new high in May, Xinhua reported. 新華社消息,我國遭遇50年來最嚴重旱災,導致蔬菜價格飛漲,各方擔憂五月CPI或再創新高。
The average prices of 20 kinds of vegetables being monitored rose 18.84 percent this week from the previous week, according to figures from the Baishazhou Market in Wuhan, capital of drought-hit Hubei Province. Things are nearly the same for areas outside the drought-affected regions as well. 據受災嚴重的湖北省武漢市白沙洲市場數據顯示,監測的20個蔬菜品種的均價比上周均價上漲18.84%。未受災區域的情況也極為類似。
Leaf vegetables such as cabbage, rape and celery saw price hikes for the two weeks ending May 22, according to a National Bureau of Statistics report released Tuesday. Cabbage prices gained 11.9 percent, rape went up 16.4 percent and celery surged 11.6 percent. 國家統計局24日公布數據顯示,葉類蔬菜如大白菜、油菜和芹菜等連續兩周出現較大幅度上漲,大白菜、油菜和芹菜的價格分別較上期上漲11.9%、16.4%和11.6%。
Food accounts for about 30 percent of the CPI, while vegetables represent about 20 percent of the food category. CPI價格指數中,食品價格比重約為30%,而蔬菜約占食品總量的20%。

Huachuang Securities raised its forecast for year-on-year CPI growth in May from 5.4 percent to 5.5 percent, a 34-month high.
