Blast in Yemen kills four foreign tourists
Adjust font size:

Four foreign tourists were killed and two others wounded in a blast in a tourist attraction in southeastern Yemen on Sunday, the official website of the ruling party General People's Congress reported.

The four killed believed to be South Korean and the two wounded were among a group of tourists visiting the ancient town of Shibamin the southeastern province of Hadramawt, the report said, quoting a local security source.

The source gave no details of the blast though preliminary information indicated a suicide bombing. The Yemeni government has not made any comment on the attack so far.

Built in the 16th century, the Shibam town, some 800 km southeast of the capital Sanaa, is the site of the world's oldest skyscrapers and was listed by the United Nations as a World Heritage in 1982.

Foreign tourists have been frequently targeted in the impoverished country, which houses al-Qaida and other terrorist groups.

In January 2008, two Belgian tourists were killed by al-Qaida-inspired militants in the Hadramawt province.
