The Ministry of Health Monday confirmed two new cases of A/H1N1 influenza on the mainland.

The confirmations brought the mainland's total number of confirmed A/H1N1 cases to 11, the ministry said in a statement.

In the eastern Zhejiang Province, a 19-year-old man, who studied at St. John's University in New York, became one of the new cases after returning to his hometown Wenzhou on Friday.

The other case was a Chinese national who works for an Australian company in Shanghai. He traveled from Melbourne to Shanghai on Saturday.

Their temperatures had fallen to normal and other flu symptoms, like coughs and sore throats, had eased, said doctors.

Twenty-five out of 27 passengers within three rows of the seat of the Zhejiang patient were quarantined. The other two, one local and one Indian, have left for France and Spain, respectively.

Zhang Ping, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Health Bureau, Monday called on those who had returned from abroad to stay at home for a seven-day observation period and report their health condition.

Doctors said 31 passengers who had close contact with the Shanghai patient have been quarantined in Shanghai and none of them have shown flu symptoms.
