2 more milk-related kidney stone cases reported in Macao
Adjust font size:

The Health Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) confirmed another two kidney stone cases in the wake of Chinese mainland's melamine milk scandal, the Macao Post Daily reported on Thursday.

The two new cases involved a four-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl, who were diagnosed with a kidney stone respectively, according to the daily, which quoted information from the Bureau. Both of the girls were part of the 1,164 local children who underwent checks for kidney stones at a local hospital last week.

The two girls were undergoing specialist treatment for their condition.

By far, the number of local children diagnosed with kidney stones after consuming milk products imported from the mainland reached 23, the daily said.

Thousands of Macao students took part in a government-sponsored "milk plan" over the past years, under which these students were provided with free milk that was mainly imported from the mainland.

The "milk plan" was shelved immediately after the melamine-tainted milk scandal broke in the mainland last year.
