East China Braces for Onslaught of Typhoon Kaemi
Adjust font size:

Typhoon Kaemi, the fifth typhoon of the year, has come on the heels of Bilis that has claimed 530 lives across China, meteorologists warn.

Typhoon Kaemi is expected to move from seawaters east of the Taiwan Province on Monday and land on the mainland around Wednesday, the meteorological station in the coastal Fujian Province said Sunday.

"It will probably land in the coastal regions in the central and northern parts of Fujian, or the southern areas of Zhejiang Province," the station said in a report.

It said the typhoon was located at latitude 17.9 north and longitude 128.2 east, in seawaters some 960 km southeast of Taiwan's Hualien, at 2:00?AM Sunday.

The typhoon packed winds of 40 meters per second and its center was moving northwest at 15 km per hour towards Taiwan Island's east coast.

Starting on Monday, Kaemi will bring high winds to the sea in central and northern parts of Fujian Province and most coastal cities are in for heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday, the station said.

It has warned the citizens to be alert to flood, landslides and mud-rock flows.
