Melting snow has caused heavy flooding in parts of Xinjiang. Flood waters damaged the electrical grid in Kalamagai Township in Fuhai County, cutting off power for more than two days. Repair teams are working around the clock to restore service.

Flood waters toppled two electrical poles on key transmission lines. The loss of power added to the misery, as people strive to rebuild their lives. The severe weather also hampered disaster relief work.

Dong Hengliang, Resident Kalamagai Township, said, After the power was cut off, nothing could be done. Our equipment can't work, and messages can't get through. The county's agricultural sector relies on electricity for irrigation, but with no power, nothing can work.

The power supply department sent crews to the scene and worked quickly to find a way to restore at least some electrical service.

Du Jiang, Manager Fuhai Power Grid Corp., said, At present, the most feasible measure is to link the wires between the two poles just near the toppled ones, which will help us resume the power supply as soon as possible.

Restoring electrical power in flood hit areas is proving very difficult. However, service is expected to be restored to Kalamagai Township in two days.
