Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan met in Beijing Monday with Samuel Berger, former assistant to the president for national security affairs of the United States.
Zeng expressed appreciation for the long-term concern and support of Berger on the improvement of Sino-US relations, and hoped that he would continue to push forward economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Berger expressed his willingness to further the relationship.
The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation on electric power, resources and environmental protection. Zeng welcomed US enterprises to invest in China in the above areas.
Berger took the position as assistant to the president for national security affairs from 1997 to 2001 under the Clinton administration.
