Malaysian PM Meets with DM Cao

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi met with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan on Wednesday, saying that Malaysia and China see a broad prospect in their cooperation.

 

Malaysia and China have been maintaining close exchanges and cooperation since they established diplomatic ties and the two sides see a broad prospect and significant potential in their cooperation, Badawi said when he was meeting with Cao at Putrajaya, the administrative center of Malaysia's Federal Government.

 

The Malaysian government attached great importance to the development of friendly cooperation relationship with China in various fields and it would adhere to one-China policy as before, he said.

 

The unceasing consolidation and development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries not only meet the fundamental interest of their peoples, but also are in favor of regional and world peace and stability, he said.

 

The Malaysian prime minister hoped that the two sides would fully tap the potential to further push ahead the friendly cooperation ties between the two countries and their armies.

 

Cao, who is also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of China and a state councilor, said that the current China-Malaysia relations grow smoothly, the exchanges of visits by high-level delegations are in high frequency.

 

The two countries also have seen remarkable achievements in their economic and trade cooperation and maintained good coordination in many major world and regional affairs, said Cao.

 

He appreciated the Malaysian government's sustained adherence to one-China policy as well as its support to China's reunification cause.

 

He expressed belief that with the concern from the two countries' leaders and concerted efforts by the two sides, the relations between the two countries and their armies will surely grow further and score new achievements.

 

Cao arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Monday for an official goodwill visit to Malaysia. He would leave for Singapore on Thursday.
