Defense Minister Cao Meets with Brunei, Philippine Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan met in Beijing Thursday with Haji Awang Halbi Bin Haji MD Yussof, commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Narciso L. Abaya Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines.

During his meeting with Halbi, Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and State Councilor, said China and Brunei have strengthened cooperation in economics and closely coordinated in the past years. China is satisfied with bilateral exchanges and cooperation and is ready to further promote the development between the two armies.
 
Halbi said two nations have a long history of exchanges. Brunei values China's role in maintaining regional safety and stability. He reiterated that Brunei would continue to adhere to "One China" policy.

When meeting Abaya, Cao said bilateral cooperation has developed rapidly since two nations established diplomatic relations. In recent years, the two nations have carried out effective cooperation in agriculture and infrastructure. Bilateral trade volume rose year on year. The relations between the armed forces of the two countries also maintained a good momentum. China is willing to promote the army-to-army relations.

Abaya said China is a large nation in the region and it plays a significant role in regional affairs. The Philippines is willing to contribute to the regional security, together with China. He also reiterated his country's "One China" position.
