Lesson Forty-six Winter in Beijing
The Beijing winter is cold, but it is also beautiful. Close your eyes and try to picture the snow-covered roofs of the Forbidden City; or a light frost blanketing the rustic grounds of the Temple of Heaven, or people braving the winds for a bowl of steaming hot soybean milk before heading off to work amid a steady stream of taxis and bicycles.

麗麗：
天氣越來(lái)越冷了，我要去買幾件過(guò)冬的衣服。
Lili: It is getting cold. I'm going to buy some winter clothes.
Mài kè: W? hé n? yì q? qù ba. W? zhèng xi?ng m?i yí jiàn yǔ róng fú ne.
麥克：
我和你一起去吧。我正想買一件羽絨服呢。
Mike: I'll go with you. I was just thinking of buying a down-padded anorak.
Lì li: W? yào m?i de dōng xi kě bù sh?o ne: dà yī, máo yī, wéi jīn, sh?u tào děng děng.
麗麗：
我要買的東西可不少呢：大衣、毛衣、圍巾、手套等等。
Lili: I have quite a lot of things to buy: a coat, wool sweater, scarf and gloves.
Mài kè: Xiàn zài z?o w?n wēn chā hěn dà, rén men hěn róng yì g?n mào.
麥克：
現(xiàn)在早晚溫差很大，人們很容易感冒。
Mike: Temperature differences between day and night are big now. It's easy to catch a cold.

麗麗：
是的，我們要注意保暖，還要增加戶外活動(dòng)。
Lili: Yes, which is why we should wrap up warm. At the same time, we should do more outdoor activities.

麥克：

Lili: The city's central heating will be turned on in a few days. Things will be much warmer then.

麥克：

Mike: That's good to know! By the way, what kind of food do you like to eat in the winter?

Lili: We like the meat and vegetable hotpot. It really helps us to keep warm.

Mike: That sounds delicious. I must taste it.
