Beijing to Impose Traffic Control in May Day Holiday

Beijing's traffic administration department will take temporary measures controlling traffic flows on some roads during the upcoming weeklong May Day Holiday.

It is estimated that over 2 million tourists will come to Beijing while over 4 million Beijing citizens will go out to other cities or suburbs for tours and sightseeing. The passenger flow during this May Day holiday will probably exceed 85 million person/times and maybe 12 million person/times for each day in peak time from May 1 to 4 in Beijing.

Some 20 scenic spots including Tian'anmen Square, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo, Zhongshan Park, Temple of Heaven and so on as well as some key roads and downtown areas, will become the major venues for tourists and areas very busy for passenger transportation.

To cater to the increasing needs for holidaymakers, the departments concerned will take temporary measures on road and traffic control. Except buses and other means for public transportation, some roads and other vehicles are only permitted to drive in single-direction and forbidden to go through or only automobiles with pass are allowed on some roads. And those automobiles not permitted will have to take detours to reach their destinations, thus to ensure a smooth traffic and strengthen transportation security.
