Museum Being Built on Former Presidential House

The Presidential House of the Kuomintang government in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province in east China, will be rebuilt into a museum of contemporary Chinese history.

Officials in charge of the project said the project will cost 100 million yuan, and that upon its completion, the museum will be twice the size of the current Presidential House, as all subordinate buildings occupied by residents will be emptied out.

The provincial committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference already moved out earlier this year.

The Presidential House on Changjiang Road was a governor's house during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It became the Presidential House when Sun Yat-sen founded the temporary government of the Republic of China in Nanjing on January 1, 1912.
