Most of This Year's University Grads in Shanghai Find Jobs
As of the end of June, 73 percent of this year's college graduates in Shanghai had found employment,a figure nearly equivalent to that of last year, said Jiao Yang, spokeswoman of the Shanghai Municipal government, at a news briefing on Wednesday.

A total of 81,733 students graduated from local higher-education institutions in 2003, a 31 percent increase year-on-year.

The breakdown Of all students that have found jobs is: postgraduates, 94 percent; graduates from regular colleges and universities, 81 percent; and graduates from vocational or technical institutes, 56.6 percent.

The number employed in June was much higher than the number employed in May, and the number will continue to rise with the resumption of civil servant recruitment and job fairs, all of which had been suspended due to the SARS outbreak.

The rapid development of the local economy and improved career guidance services are helping greater numbers of students find jobs after graduation.
