Urban Residents' Income up 9.8%

The disposable per capita income of China's urban residents rose 9.8 percent in real terms during the first three quarters of 2005, 2.8 percentage points more than the same term of 2004, according to a seasonal report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Friday.

The sample survey of 54,500 urban households conducted by the NBS shows that urban resident's per capita yearly income reached 7,902 yuan (about US$980), realizing a year-on-year increase of 11.7 percent without considering price changes.

The NBS survey also shows that the per capita consumer spending of urban residents reached 5,950 yuan (about US$735), an inflation-adjusted increase of 8.8 percent, 2.3 percentage points more than in the same term last year.

Consumer spending on food, clothing, medical care service, and housing went up 8.8 percent, 15.6 percent, 15.3 percent, and 9.8 percent, respectively.
