China's WTO Entry
China Adjusts Trade Laws for Final WTO Entry

China is in a critical period for amending its trade laws to meet the requirements to become a formal member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Yu Mingde, an official with State Trade and Economic Commission said that according to the commitment made by Chinese government, the commission will release a total of 163 adjusted trade laws and regulations at the end of this month.

The revision work is still underway, Yu said, adding that some former laws and regulations will be amended or even abolished.

Zhang Yuqing, director-general of the department of treaties and laws under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation (MOFTEC), said that China has already released some adjusted laws and regulations concerning foreign fund use and intellectual property protection.

The newly released intellectual property rights laws include the Patent Law, the Trademark Law and the Copyright Law.
