China's WTO Entry
WTO Entries to Propel Cross-Straits Trade

An official with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation (MOFTEC) said yesterday that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan's consecutive entries to the World Trade Organization (WTO) are expected to give a strong push to cross-Straits trade and economic co-operation.

Zhang Xiangchen, deputy director-general of the Department of WTO Affairs under MOFTEC, urged at a press conference in Beijing that Taiwan authorities accept the one-China principle and allow direct trade, postal and communications links between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan as quickly as possible to promote common prosperity.

He said China has completed the translation of legal documents on China's WTO entry and will publish them soon.

Zhang Yuqing, director-general of MOFTEC's Department of Treaty and Law, vowed to build an open and transparent legal framework after China's WTO entry. He said China has nearly finished with amending and creating trade-related laws, rules and administrative orders in line with WTO rules on various levels.
