Adjust font size:

Railway police in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, announced Tuesday they have stepped up luggage check-ups at local railway station for passenger safety concerns and safe railway transport.

According to a notice issued by local police, from now on to the end of the National Day holiday in the first week of October, knives of any kind are strictly banned and each passenger can carry no more than 20ml of nail polish, hair dye and other cosmetic fluids.

The amount of canister liquids, including mousse, hair spray, pesticide and air freshener, is limited to 600 ml per person.

A passenger could take no more than five lighters and 20 matches aboard trains. Medical alchohol was limited to 100 ml, according to the notice.

The stricter restrictions include bans on flammable, explosive, toxic, radioactive and other items that could pose a risk to public safety.

Police at the Urumqi railway station said they would have each and every piece of luggage inspected by scanners, and some items would have to be unpacked for inspection.
