Adjust font size:

Every effort will be made by the Chinese government to ensure convenient and efficient services are provided to foreign broadcasters and the print media during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said State Councilor Chen Zhili on Tuesday.

Chen said at the opening ceremony of the 43rd annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) that full consideration would be given to accepted international standards for the media when the event was being prepared and commitments made when bidding would be honored. ?

The meeting attracted more than 500 representatives from 130 broadcasters in 40 countries and regions. The broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics will feature in the ABU's discussions.

The Beijing Organizing Committee will also introduce the host broadcaster and report on their preparations for the Games.

Chen also spoke highly of the role played by the ABU in promoting exchanges and cooperation between its member organizations. It had played an active part in promoting the development of broadcasting in the region as well as encouraging exchanges and dialogue between different cultures, Chen explained. ?

The Chinese government would always support ABU activities in Asia-Pacific, which had contributed to the social progress of the region, added Chen. ?

The representatives will also discuss digital broadcasting and the development of new media.?
