Luo Lin, head of State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), has been appointed chief of a high-level investigation group to probe into Saturday's fatal high-speed train collision in east China's Zhejiang Province.

A comprehensive investigation into the cause of the train crash has been launched, and the results are expected to be made public in mid-September, Luo said Thursday.

The responsibility of the investigation group includes finding out the facts, cause, casualties and direct economic losses of the train crash, according to a resolution made at a plenary meeting of the group on Thursday morning.

The group will also define responsibilities, suggest punishments to those held responsible for the accident, draw lessons from the tragedy and roll out measures to prevent further accidents

The members of the investigation group, established by the State Council, or cabinet, include senior officials from SAWS, Ministry of Supervision, Ministry of Railways, All-china Federation of Trade Unions, the provincial government of Zhejiang, and Ministry of Supreme People's Procuratorate, as well as railway experts.

The accident that happened late Saturday near the city of Wenzhou has left 39 people dead and 192 others injured.
