A former Party discipline chief in a central China city was executed Thursday after being convicted of multiple counts of crime, said a local court.

Zeng Jinchun, former secretary of the Chenzhou Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and vice secretary of the CPC Chenzhou Municipal Committee, was executed by shooting, said a statement from the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha City, capital of the central China's Hunan Province.

Zeng was found guilty of taking more than 31 million yuan (about 4.7 million U.S. dollars) in bribes alone or along with others since the latter half of 1997 through to September 2006, said the court source.

In return, he gave the bribers mine contracts and job promotions.

Zeng had assets worth around 9.5 million yuan which he couldn't account for.

He was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha City in November 2008 for accepting bribes and failing to account for his assets.

The Hunan Provincial Higher People's Court rejected Zeng's appeal in July 2009. The Supreme People's Court had approved the death sentence handed down to Zeng, said the statement.
