In a separate news item put on the wire early Tuesday, the number of the miners being trapped underground was wrongly placed at 15. Also, the name of the county should be spelled as Yuxian instead of Yu.

The gas explosion occurred at 4:50 p.m. when 41 miners were working underground at the Chendong Coal Mine. Altogether 29 people were lifted to the ground.

Rescue work and an investigation were underway, said a spokesman with the city government of Yangquan which administers Yuxian County.
