The Kuomintang (KMT) would like to invite more provincial-level heavyweights of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from the mainland to visit Taiwan, its deputy secretary general Chang Jung-kung said Monday.

Chang made the remarks as Xu Guangchun, former secretary of the CPC Henan provincial committee, ended his week-long visit in Taiwan on Monday.

"The mainland delegation led by Xu have brought positive effects in Taiwan," Chang said.

Xu was the second CPC provincial chief invited by the KMT Central Committee, after Liang Baohua, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu provincial committee, who visited Taiwan last month.

"The KMT Central Committee will invite other secretaries of CPC provincial committees in due time, to further advance cross-Strait exchanges in economy, trade and culture, and to deepen the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations," Chang said.

Although themed on cultural exchanges, the Henan delegation made local purchases worth 550 million U.S. dollars, widely welcomed by industrial and commercial circles in Taiwan, Chang said.

Xu also met with KMT honorary chairmen Wu Poh-hsiung and Lien Chan during his stay in Taiwan.

Before the trip ended, Xu announced Henan Province would organize 100,000 tourists to Taiwan next year, including 10,000 before the Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 14.

Henan Province would also raise 1.4 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 295 million U.S. dollars) to build a martial arts college in Taiwan, Xu said.
