China will take measures to promote the development of biotechnology and other emerging industries, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission said Thursday. Speaking at the 5th China Bio-industry Convention in Shenzhen, Ren Zhiwu, deputy director of NDRC's high-tech industry department, said the government would take measures to speed the growth of budding sectors such as biotechnology, IT, pharmaceuticals and alternative energy, carrying out a decree by the State Council, China's cabinet, released last October. Government biotech support would include financial aid for small and medium enterprises, Ren said.
