Chinese authorities have detained the head of China Mobile's data service subsidiary for questioning, though no details were given regarding the substance of the investigation, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Thursday, citing company insiders.

ASPire Holdings CEO Ye Bing's detention adds yet another senior executive to the list of casualties of the telecom operator's recent anti-corruption initiative.

Last Tuesday, China Mobile confirmed Ma Li, deputy general manager of its data department, had been taken away by authorities for investigation on suspicion of "seriously violating discipline".

Geng Xuefeng, deputy director of China Mobile's terminal department, is taking temporary charge of ASPire Holdings.

In 2004, Ye took the post as general manager of China Mobile's data department. He later moved to work with China Mobile subsidiaries, first as CEO of 139 Mobile Internet Co. in 2007 and later as CEO of ASPire Holdings in 2008, after China Mobile decided to create an internet-service unit in ASPire Technologies.

Since the exposure of a corruption case at Sichuan Wireless Music Base (SWMB), China Mobile has seen a number of high-profile executives implicated and arrested by authorities, including former general manager of SWMB Li Xiangdong, former general manager of Sichuan Mobile Li Hua and former general manager of Chongqing Mobile Shen Changfu.

China's business press carried the story above on Thursday.
